Tomorrow’s Bells
Use four beats per rehearsal, three rehearsals maximum. At two beats remaining the second stroke closes the counterweight window; an unpinned tower can no longer be aligned that round. In a first round, hearing the square and watching the striker establish two retained observations. Reset returns the group to the square and refreshes pins and handbells. In a later round, pin early, invite a courtyard reply, then align the tower. The alternative is to distribute two handbells and brief volunteers, ending with a slower street-by-street opening. The tower plan requires both observations; the handbell plan needs only the understood mismatch. State that pins and promises reset even when knowledge does not, and place removed physical counters back on the table.
Truth and opening
The tower’s rehearsal ring holds three charges. Its noon striker is one turn ahead of the courtyard reply. The west counterweight can be pinned only before the second stroke. Learning the mismatch persists across resets, while pins, invitations and workers’ positions return to rehearsal start. An aligned pair of bells or a distributed handbell opening ends the rehearsal.
120-minute route
Compare the tower and reply observations 30m → Reset and debate the two opening methods 30m → Carry out an opening with a final reserve round 40m
Measure and watch in round one, which closes its pinning window. In round two distribute and brief handbells, or pin first for the tower. The final round is a finite recovery, not extra free investigations.
People
Pell: wants Announce the opening at the agreed time Offers One pin and three rehearsal charges. Boundary: Will not invent a fourth rehearsal.
Anni: wants Have workers answer before work is declared open Offers The courtyard reply and its timing. Boundary: The tower cannot consent on workers’ behalf.
Dov: wants Reach neighbors who cannot hear the tower clearly Offers Two portable handbells and a slower route. Boundary: Needs a briefing, not just an instrument.
Events and costs
Beats in this rehearsal at most 2: The free pinhole passes behind its cover. A pin already placed still holds; a new pin must wait for another rehearsal.
Beats in this rehearsal is 0: The banner returns to its first fold. Reset if a charge remains, or finish with the postponed opening.
Closures
An opening that waits for its answer: West counterweight pinned is true and Courtyard reply invited is true
Tomorrow arrives one street at a time: Volunteers briefed is true
An ordinary day before the celebration: Available
Recovery
A late pin can be retried in a remaining round, or bypassed by the two-handbell plan. After round three use spoken notices and postpone; do not reset to a fourth round or erase known timing.
