Make a map change the players’ decisions

Use The Folded Orchard's two clips, cistern alignment and low-crease discovery to compare a complete repair, a short cart rescue and a reliable perimeter route.

Begin with the cart and a real route choice

In The Folded Orchard, the seed cart waits in the Folded cart pocket. Start at the fixed Orchard gate with two wide survey clips and five survey-and-hauling intervals in the 90-minute route, or seven in the longer route. Put those tokens beside the map. The northern approach runs through the Survey press shed and North blossom terrace to the Mirror cistern. The southern circuit reaches the Low stone bridge through the Listening apple row. Do not charge intervals for ordinary movement or drawing the map.

Discover a connection before opening it

At the press shed, trace the older survey's dotted line. This discovers the Low crease passage between the cistern and listening row, but discovery alone does not open it. At the cistern, spend one interval straightening the reflected rows from the dry bank. The discovered passage is now usable. Point to those two separate changes: knowing a route and meeting its condition. On the GM map conditional connections are dashed; the player map shows connections once their conditions are met.

Count the difference between rescue and repair

At the cart pocket, securing the cart uses one clip and one interval. A haul through the opened low crease costs one further interval, so discovery, water alignment, securing and shortcut hauling use three intervals and one clip in total. Return to the gate to receive the seeds; the orchard remains partly folded. A full repair instead spends the other clip and one interval at the north counterweight, then one interval unfolding the secured cart pocket. Together with water alignment and securing, that repair costs four intervals and both clips.

Keep the perimeter useful when plans change

The Old windbreak lane offers a two-interval perimeter haul after the cart is secured. It needs neither water alignment nor the hidden shortcut and leaves one clip available for later repairs. If bridge-to-cistern is blocked, approach through gate, press shed and north terrace. If the cart shelf is blocked, use bridge, windbreak and pocket. Name the alternative before asking for a decision. With no clips or intervals left, mark the reliable routes and withdraw: everyone returns safely, but the dry cart remains unrecovered.
