Feather Fall: choose up to five falling targets
Feather Fall is a triggered response with a target limit and a limited duration. Decide which falling creatures are protected before assuming the entire group is safe.
Before casting

| Duration | 1 minute |
Use it at the table
- Use the listed Reaction trigger when you or a visible creature within 60 feet falls.
- Choose up to five falling creatures within range; their descent slows to 60 feet per round.
- A protected creature landing before the spell ends takes no fall damage, and the spell ends for that creature.
Make the call
Six companions are falling within range when a caster uses Feather Fall. No special feature alters the spell. How many of those companions can this casting protect?
The ruling
Up to five of them.
The spell explicitly allows up to five falling creatures. A group is not treated as one creature for that limit, so the caster must select no more than five. The protection also depends on landing before the duration ends; it is not a permanent removal of all future falling consequences.
Watch for this mistake
The Reaction must be available at the trigger. The spell slows a fall rather than granting a Fly Speed, and its damage prevention is tied to landing while it remains active.
Ask the table
Which creatures are selected, is the Reaction available, and can they land before the minute ends?
